Oil-Immersed Transformer

Oil Immersed Transformers for Power Distribution Projects

Huamei Electric manufactures oil immersed transformers for industrial facilities, utility distribution networks, infrastructure projects and EPC electrical projects.

Our oil immersed transformer range includes distribution transformers, fully sealed transformers, three-dimensional wound core transformers, on-load tap-changing transformers and amorphous alloy transformers for different voltage levels, load conditions and project requirements.

Oil immersed transformers use insulating oil for electrical insulation and heat dissipation. This design is widely used for outdoor and industrial power distribution applications where reliable voltage transformation, thermal management and long-term operation are important considerations.

Available Oil Immersed Transformer Solutions

Huamei Electric provides several oil immersed transformer configurations according to different project requirements.

Typical product series include:

S11 Oil Immersed Power Transformer
S13 Fully Sealed Oil Immersed Distribution Transformer
S13 Three-Dimensional Wound Core Transformer
S13-M(F) High-Overload Distribution Transformer
SZ11 On-Load Tap-Changing Transformer
SZ13-M.ZT On-Load Tap-Changing Distribution Transformer
SBH15-M Amorphous Alloy Oil Immersed Transformer

The appropriate configuration depends on the required capacity, system voltage, voltage regulation method, load characteristics, installation environment and project technical specifications.

Key Selection Parameters

Oil immersed transformer selection should not be based only on rated capacity.

For an accurate technical proposal, the following project information should normally be confirmed:

  • Rated capacity (kVA)
  • High-voltage rating
  • Low-voltage rating
  • Frequency
  • Number of phases
  • Vector group
  • High-voltage tap range
  • Short-circuit impedance
  • Cooling method
  • No-load and load loss requirements
  • Installation environment
  • Ambient temperature
  • Altitude
  • Tank structure
  • Required accessories
  • Quantity
  • Destination country
  • Project application

For projects involving motors, pumps, mining equipment or other loads with high starting current, the actual operating load and starting conditions should also be reviewed before finalizing transformer capacity.

Fully Sealed Oil Immersed Transformers

Fully sealed oil immersed transformers are commonly used in distribution projects where compact construction and reduced exposure of transformer oil to outside air are desirable.

In this type of design, the transformer tank can use corrugated walls that provide both heat dissipation and compensation for changes in oil volume caused by temperature variations.

By limiting direct contact between transformer oil and outside air, the sealed structure helps reduce moisture and oxygen entering the insulation system.

Huamei's existing oil immersed transformer range includes fully sealed S11 and S13 series configurations for distribution applications.

On-Load Tap-Changing Transformers

For projects where the incoming voltage varies or where the secondary voltage needs to remain within a controlled range during operation, an on-load tap-changing transformer may be considered.

Huamei's oil immersed transformer range includes SZ-series on-load tap-changing configurations.

These transformers allow voltage adjustment through the tap-changing system according to the approved project design and operating requirements.

Typical applications may include industrial facilities, commercial power systems, substations and other projects where voltage regulation is an important part of the electrical design.

Transformer Construction and Cooling

The main components of an oil immersed transformer typically include:

  • Magnetic core
  • High-voltage winding
  • Low-voltage winding
  • Insulation system
  • Transformer oil
  • Oil tank
  • Bushings
  • Tap changer
  • Temperature monitoring components
  • Pressure protection devices where required

The magnetic core provides the transformer magnetic circuit, while the windings perform voltage transformation.

Transformer oil provides electrical insulation and transfers heat generated by the active part to the tank and cooling surfaces.

Depending on the transformer configuration, corrugated tank structures, radiators, protection accessories and different voltage regulation arrangements can be selected.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Oil immersed transformer manufacturing involves several controlled production processes.

Typical production stages include:

Core Processing

Magnetic core materials are processed and assembled according to the transformer design.

Coil Winding

High-voltage and low-voltage windings are manufactured according to the approved electrical parameters.

Insulation Preparation

Insulation materials and winding structures are prepared according to the transformer design.

Active-Part Assembly

The core, windings and associated insulation components are assembled into the active part.

Drying and Oil Processing

The transformer active part is dried before final oil processing and assembly.

Tank Assembly and Oil Filling

The active part is installed into the transformer tank, followed by oil filling according to the required production process.

Electrical Testing

Before shipment, the transformer is inspected and tested according to the applicable product specification and approved project requirements.

Huamei's product documentation also describes vacuum oil injection and sealed oil-tank structures for relevant oil immersed transformer designs.

Applications of Oil Immersed Transformers

Oil immersed transformers are widely used in power distribution and industrial electrical systems, including:

  • Utility distribution networks
  • Industrial factories
  • Mining projects
  • Power substations
  • Industrial parks
  • Water treatment projects
  • Commercial and infrastructure projects
  • Rural power distribution
  • Agricultural power projects
  • Renewable energy projects
  • EPC electrical projects

The final transformer configuration should be selected according to the actual load, voltage level, operating environment, installation method and local project requirements.

Project Documentation and Engineering Support

For overseas EPC and industrial projects, transformer procurement usually requires more than a commercial quotation.

According to the project stage and technical requirements, the engineering confirmation process may include:

  • Transformer datasheet
  • Outline drawing
  • Nameplate information
  • Technical parameter confirmation
  • Accessory configuration
  • Test documentation
  • Packing information
  • Project-specific drawings

If the customer already has a technical specification or single-line diagram, these documents can be reviewed before production to reduce the risk of parameter mismatch.
